Don’t get me wrong, human. You’re amazing just the way you are but you might seem less awesome compared to dogs. If you own a dog, you know how good, loving, loyal, charming, happy and jumpy they always are. You just can’t help but pet when you get close to them. Actually, it’s not a choice, you’re obliged to pet them. This is because they have supernatural abilities no man can acquire. Here’s 3 ways in which dogs are better than you:
- A dog’s sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than ours. They possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about six million in us. That means that for every scent receptor a human has, a dog has about 50. This gives them the ability to smell fear, cancer, changes in glucose blood level, onset of an epileptic seizure, pregnancy, your identity and your interactions with other dogs. And yes, they also make good weather forecasters. Under perfect conditions, they have been reported to smell objects or people as far as 20km away. This capability alone should give you all the reasons to get a dog if you don’t have one. A trained dog equals a doc:). - Dogs have a very sensitive sense of hearing. They can hear nearly twice as many frequencies as us and can hear sounds four times farther away than we can. Impressive, right? It’s worth mentioning that all puppies are born deaf(and blind) and only get to hear after around 2 weeks. They can easily differentiate sounds and pinpoint the exact location of the sound. This is because they have 18 muscles controlling their ears. Personally, I can wiggle only one ear but this is something all dogs do with ease. Slight movements of the ears helps them hear much better so you’ll notice them wiggling every now and then. And the position of the ears also communicates it’s body language. When the dog is alert and probably sensing danger or hears a foreign sound, the ears will be pointed upwards. When it is sick or when one is petting it, the ears will be flat and pushed back. Depends on the situation.
- Dogs can sense Earth’s magnetic field. This is mostly evident when the dog does it’s business. If you’re wondering why dogs spin before they poop, it’s because they prefer to defecate with their spine being aligned along the North–South axis. They position themselves such that they are facing north while pooping. Wierd. Anyway, this ability also helps them navigate and they are able to calculate shortcuts in unfamiliar terrain. You could choose to drop them in nowhere land but they will most likely find their way back home.
Most amazing feature about these canines is that they are the best companions you can ever have. Their unconditional love never fades
