Sunil Chhetri biography:

He was born on August 3rd, 1984 in Secunderabad, India to K.B Chhetri and Sushila. His father played football for the team of the Indian army and his mother and her twin sisters played for the Women’s National team of Nepal.

He is a professional footballer from India, and he is part of Bengaluru FC in the ISL. He plays as a striker for Bengaluru and is the top goal scorer for the national team. He made his debut in 2002 in Mohan Bagun, and then he switched over to JCT (Jagatjit Cotton & Textile Football Club) and scored 21 goals in 48 games. In 2011 he helped India win the SAFF (South Asian Football federation) championship. He is the 2nd footballer in India to play 100 matches after Bhaichung Bhutia. And he is the recipient of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award on November 13th, 2021.

1. First Indian player to play in 3 different continents – they are Asia, Europe, and North America.

2. Most goals scored by an Indian in all of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions – he scored a total of 19 goals in AFC Champions Qualifiers and the AFC Cup.

3.   Most Hat-tricks by any Indian in the Indian Super League – He scored 2 hat-tricks so far in ISL. The most by any Indian player.  

 

4.   First Indian player to score a hat-trick in Indian Super League – he is the first Indian to score a hat-trick in ISL.  

 

5.   Highest goal scorer for India in the ISL – he is the all-time highest goal scorer for India in ISL.  

 

6.   Highest goal scorer for India in the I- League – he is the highest Indian goal scorer in the I-League with 90 goals to his credit. 

 

7.   The AIFF player of the year for 6 times – since the start of AIFF (All India football federation) he won the award a record 6 times.  

 

8.   Most number of hat-tricks for India – he scored 3 hat-tricks in international football. 

 

9.   He made the most appearances for India – this skipper has made 117 appearances for India internationally.  

 

10.   The most international goals by an Indian – he made 74 goals in 117 international games. He is also the 2nd highest goal scorer after Cristiano’s 103 goals.
