Deciding to Buy an EV (Electrical Vehicle) Here’s What You Need to Consider

It is quite normal to get intrigued by the new inventions, but you should consider whether they are according to your comfort zone or not. They might feel good in the beginning but with time people lose their interest in things that don’t suit their lifestyle.

If you are thinking of buying an EV then these are the few questions that you need to ask yourself.

Is the car’s operating range enough

The models that are being made today offer 200 miles of range. The old models still provide 100 miles of range. Tesla is the only auto company that offers 300 miles of range. You need to check that which range suits you best and then buy the model according to your preference.

Multiple factors can affect the range of the vehicle, like your driving habits, the speed you drive at, and most importantly the weather. Researches show that in winter when the mercury dips and the vehicle’s heater is used, an EV’s range is dropped by almost 41 percent. The battery’s range can also be affected by the hot weather; it drops by an average of 17 percent when the air conditioner is used.

Is it according to your needs

When you think about buying a car, you need to think about many factors regarding your family, your comfort, and your liking. You should do thorough research before buying any car. Check if it has enough space for your whole family and also if there is enough space for the cargo and children-related gear. Another important thing is to give a complete test drive to see if you like it and is it comfortable.

Can it be charged at home

The easiest way to charge your EV is you charge it at home. You can plug it in at night and then in the morning it will be all charged up and ready to use. Charging an EV at home can be convenient and it can save a lot of money as well. You can hire an electrician to install a 110 or 240-volt service in your garage.

Are there any charging stations nearby

When buying an EV, do research a check if there are any public charging stations available nearby. The accessible public charging stations are increasing as the demand for EVs is increasing. It is more likely to find two or three charging sports near your work or home.

Should you buy a new EV or a used one

An electric car can be expensive. So buying a used electric car can save you a lot of money. An interesting this is that all the new models of EV are pricier than the new fuel cars, and a used EV is cheaper as compared to used fuel operated vehicles.

Even though new cars can be costly but they guarantee a full warranty and the longest electric charge. It also keeps your mind at peace that the batteries are in phenomenal condition.

How much can the maintenance cost vary in the long run

The maintenance of an EV is a lot cheaper than a gas car. Although if you decide to keep an EV for a longer time, then the battery would give up at some point. That is when you will have to spend your money to get the battery replaced. It can be a costly procedure. It can cost between $5,000 to $16,000 that too excluding labor. The federal rules and regulations require the automakers to cover the EV’s battery for up to 100,000 miles or 8 years.
